Up for auction are two beautifully preserved 2003 U.S. Mint Official First Day Coin Covers, featuring the Alabama and Illinois State Quarters. Each set contains two uncirculated coins-one from the Philadelphia Mint and one from the Denver Mint-securely housed in their original U.S. Mint–issued packaging.
Alabama - 2003 First Day Coin Cover
• Features Helen Keller on the reverse, with her name in both English and Braille, along with the inspirational motto “Spirit of Courage.”
• Includes a 37¢ U.S. Flag stamp, postmarked March 17, 2003 - Tuscumbia, Alabama, Keller’s birthplace.
• Alabama was the 22nd state, and its quarter was the 22nd release in the 50 State Quarters Program.
Illinois - 2003 First Day Coin Cover
• Reverse design highlights young Abraham Lincoln, with an outline of the state, a farm scene, and the Chicago skyline-symbolizing both Illinois’ past and future.
• Includes a 37¢ U.S. Flag stamp, postmarked January 2, 2003 - Lincoln Station, Lincoln, Illinois, the official first day of issue.
• Illinois entered the Union as the 21st state in 1818, which this set proudly commemorates.
