Offered for auction is a charming vintage embroidered map of the United States, dating to the mid to late 1940s. This delightful textile piece was likely created using a Simplicity brand hot iron transfer pattern, No. 7236, published in 1946, a popular post-war era pattern intended for home needlework projects.
The map is richly illustrated with whimsical regional and historical imagery, reflecting Americana themes of the era. Notable motifs include steamboats on the Mississippi River, a cowboy, mountain ranges, churches, the Statue of Liberty, Independence Hall, a lighthouse, stagecoach, Mount Vernon, covered wagons, an early steam train, the U.S. Capitol, and many other period-inspired symbols representing America’s geography and heritage.
Designed to be completed with simple outline embroidery stitches, this piece measures approximately 23” x 18”, making it an excellent size for framing and display. Such embroidered maps were popular decorative items in mid-century homes and are now sought-after collectibles among enthusiasts of vintage textiles, needlework art, and Americana décor.
During our research, we found similar framed embroidered maps from the era, but not this exact pattern, which adds to the rarity and desirability of this particular piece for collectors.
A wonderful piece of mid-century folk art, perfect for collectors, history lovers, or anyone seeking a nostalgic decorative statement.
