Up for auction is a vintage Sajai Tibetan silver‑tone coin purse, a beautifully ornate miniature crafted in the 1950s-1970s by Indian or Afghan artisans. Designed in the traditional Sajai style -meaning “to decorate or beautify”- this petite purse features intricate filigree metalwork with swirling raised patterns and is adorned with natural agate stones, a hallmark of these bohemian folk‑art pieces. Measuring 2.5" x 1.25" x 2.75", it was traditionally used to hold coins, pills, or small talismans. Though often associated with Tibetan jewelry, these pieces were inspired by historic mecha/mechang pouches carried by nomadic travelers. Made from a silver‑tone alloy such as cupronickel, it carries a lovely rustic, oxidized look that enhances its vintage charm.
